When I returned home this evening after running some errands, and as I was carrying in my bags, I was suddenly stuck by the colorful sunset in the sky. Fortunately, I thought to pause and appreciate it, and then I quickly ran in the house to grab my camera. I took a couple of photos of this view, looking down my street between the other homes. As I waited for the clock to approach midnight, I was in another world as I painted this scene to remember.
Happy New Year!!
I wish you all a wonderful year in 2012!

What a beautiful way to bring in the New Year! I have to say the painting looks very "California" to me--I have a bunch of photos that are remarkably similar from when I was growing up in SoCal.
Hope you had--and have--a very happy New Year. I will be watching the Rose Parade today and wishing I was in CA.
Lovely image and what a way to end the old year and begin the new.
Thanks for your comments!
Kathy - we were puzzled not to find the Rose Parade on the TV this morning as we have a tradition of watching it each year. We grew attached to it when we went Cal Poly SLO and the school enters a float each year with the sister Cal Poly in So. Cal. Anyway... I just Googled and found that the parade is on tomorrow:
"The 2012 Rose Parade, which takes place on Monday, January 2nd in accordance with the "Never On A Sunday" tradition, steps off at 8am PST."
Happy New Year, Claire! I'm finally catching up on blog visits and love what you've been up to. Your trip to NOLA produced some lovely sketches and the Santa mug and sunset are great images as well! Here's to lots of drawing and painting time in 2012!
I love your beautiful San Jose sunset, Claire! Happy New Year to you.
What a beautiful painting Claire, and a great way to ring in the new year. Hope we get to spend some time together in 2012!
A great way to bring in the new year!
A lovely sketch of a lovely sunset!
