Our walking tour took us all through the French Quarter of New Orleans. I've got so many pictures that I want to sketch, and I want to fill up my trip journal - I'm not quite half way through it. I took one shot of this Jackson statue and captured a silhouette effect against the evening sky. I really enjoyed painting it.
Although I would have loved to have finished my journal on the trip, or shortly after I arrived home..... I have to say that I'm really enjoying ... s t r e t c h i n g ...... the adventure out longer as I continue to fill in my journal. Since I can't take frequent trips (limits on both time and $), it is nice to know how much I can enjoy my memories while continuing to work on my travel journal at home. I relive my travel memories at night, and it is back to work in the morning.....

By stretching it out, you can also stretch out your happy memories and feelings. I love the silhouette of the Jackson statue.
I have a couple more pages to finish in my journal, and have finished a couple but have not posted (they're not nearly as pretty as yours...and I know that's not supposed to matter).
Claire, I love your idea of stretching the adventure. Both your pages are fantastic. The suggested brickwork, the balconies and hanging baskets, and the great brick colour are great. AJ on his horse is well rendered and that sky is fabulous. I will keep watching your blog and enjoying New Orleans through your eyes. Well done!
These are beautiful. I also really love your concept of extending your trip through your painting. I'd never thought of it that way...lovely idea.
These are lovely, Claire, and they definitely pull me back to the fun and laughter we shared in NOLA! I consider reliving the experience in my sketchbook one of the benefits of travel...especially when I can't travel!
Lovely sketches Claire!
You did a fantastic job on the Andrew Jackson monument! Love those old buildings, too. This must have been a trip of a lifetime. So lovely.
