Twenty-five and a half hours in San Luis Obispo...

Twenty-five and a half hours in San Luis Obispo (or as the locals say "SLO town") ...

Last weekend my husband and I drove about 3 hours each way to spend what turned out to be 25.5 hours in San Luis Obispo, California. We're very attached to this sweet little town where we both attended college, and where two of our sons have attended as well. This time we went to visit our middle son, Sean, as he is finishing up his Architecture degree. Although we were only there for 25.5 hours, we sure fit a lot into our time, starting with wine tasting when we arrived at 4pm.

This page is my keepsake of our weekend. We were sad when it was time to head home Sunday evening. But, I managed to bring part of our weekend home with us - my journal page 2 bottles of wine, and "goodie bags" filled with our son's homemade Toffee Chip cookies that he made during the football game. It was a wonderful weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with our son. Lots of memories to treasure!

P.S.
I think Oprah and National Geographic's "Thrive" have the right idea in calling San Luis Obispo "The happiest city in America". That sounds pretty good to me.

Claire,
I love San Luis Obispo too. Your watercolor collage page is really laid out nicely. Did you have a plan when you started out or did you just do it as the weekend progressed - a little at a time? It is very nice.

Thanks for the feedback. Actually I did the whole page back at home. I really didn't have a plan either. I threw down a few things initially (SLO big letters, winery, dinner restaurant, and football info). Then I just started filling in the holes.

Your painting looks very spirited and happy, too. What a great honor, to be called the happiest city in America. There must be smiles all around there :)

Lovely memento of your time in SLO town! (Those cookies sound delicious--I sure hope my son makes cookies for me one day instead of the other way around!) We watched the football game and were rooting for the 49ers--they were my favorite team when I was growing up in CA. I was sorry to see them lose.

Claire- what a fun page you made! Once again, your blog has made me want to get out my sketchbooks and try more with the inktense set!

Wonderful memory page Claire. Interesting that you didn't have a plan because it's really well laid out.

Claire, your sketches capture life so well. This piece is so nicely done, combining your lettering and your art. You've found a great way to incorporate art into your busy schedule.

I love SLO, though I have never had the pleasure of living there. I have ridden to it a number of times on my bicycle and taken the train home.
