The view from my Son's window...

My oldest son has been sharing some photos of his time in Japan. I was quite taken with this photo as it shows part of his plane (P3) contrasted with a beautiful sunset or sunrise (I can't tell which one). I felt as if the photo was calling me to paint it - and I considered it a challenge. Thinking about my son last night, as he nears the end of this deployment in Japan, got me inspired to take on the challenge and paint this image. As I was painting I was thinking of how this has been a fun way for me to keep in touch with my son despite the many, many miles between us. I can't wait to see him again!!!

P.S. I've included his original photo in case your're interested in the view that inspired this.

What a pretty and unique painting! A great way to stay in touch with your far-off son, too. When will you get to see him?

Thanks for the comment! He should be back in the states by the end of the month or beginning of June. We will all be together for middle son's graduation in the middle of June, but I might get to see older son before that.

P.S. Turns out it was a special photo to begin with. I just found out that the photo was a special sunset out over the Pacific while they recently participated in a search and rescue mission of 10 Taiwanese fisherman on a burning boat. The engine shown is actually shut down to loiter in order to save gas for the mission.

This is a beautiful painting of his photo. You captured the moment wonderfully. Such a special day for him. I'm sure he will be quite touched to see this when he returns home.

Hi Claire, Ink & Aquarelle, I'm back with a new blog. I'm having trouble leaving a comment here, but am trying again. I love the photo & think it is more atmospheric and lovely than the original. Do join me at my new home. Glad you're still here, I love your blog.

Hi Claire, thanks for stopping by! Above, I meant to say, I love the painting as it is more atmospheric than the photo. Question: How did you get your title & image here? I have a Tiff but can't get it centered over my post...PS Love your New Orleans posts. I have such fond memories of that city!

Wow! You really did a great job of reproducing that photo with paint. Beautiful! I liked your drawings from New Orleans, too. I worked in downtown New Orleans before moving to Kuwait 17 years ago. Congrats on your son returning home. Have a great week. Tammy

What a beautiful way to "be" with your son in his absence! And I love that they were helping the fishermen when the photo was taken. I hope your son is home, safe and sound!

Thanks everyone for comments. I really did have fun with this page, and yes my son is back from deployment and happy to be home again on the West Coast (Washington State). I did get to see him visit recently during his visit to California.
