The Livestrong Challenge

Sunday morning I participated in the Livestrong Challenge here in San Jose, California. This was a good excuse for me to get up EARLY, and get some exercise which I really need! But, more importantly, it was a chance for me to come together with other people to raise awareness for the Livestrong organization (www.livestrongchallenge.org), and raise money for Cancer research. Collectively here in San Jose, we managed to raise 1.3 million during the event! What a great feeling to be a small part of a bigger effort!! I even had my own number: 2899!! It was also fun to think that while we were walking, running, or riding a bike, that Lance was over there in Europe riding in the Tour de France. It gave the whole thing a more global feel!!

I was delighted that the day started with a beautiful morning, and the excitement of it all gave me more energy than usual. I chose to enter the 5K walk around our downtown, and I made it a brisk walk. I don't get to walk around our downtown that frequently and I found my walk to be quite enjoyable. The walk gave me some quiet time to think and to take in the downtown sites and sounds. The walk was just a simple way of contributing to the larger good. Maybe next year my husband will join me and we'll do one of the bike routes instead!

We can do no great things...only small things with great love.

What a great way to spend a Saturday! You must have been feeling on top of the world to be able to contribute to something so global and so personal - at the same time!

Love your shoe sketch too!
